Home in on the article where indexing fails using the method described by @Tom6293 above. Then click the Index button in Smart Search and select 'Index Debugging', then select 'Smart Search - Content' as the Finder Plugin and type in the ID of the article and click the Index button. The output, the Result Object and Additional Elements with possible error messages may provide a clue what has gone wrong.
